Shaddah Sofreh
Sofreh Kilims are stunningly gorgeous kilims that are meant to be used as a clean surface upon which to present food. In fact etymologically the term “sofreh” comes from the term for “dinner” or “dinner table,” so these gorgeous rugs literally take the place of an elaborate dining set. Sofrehs are a flatweave rug, primarily used in Persia and the Caucasus. They tend to be a colorful mix of contrasting colors to add a striking element to the dinner table. As flatweave, social rugs they’re meant to be fun and add a spark to the room, as well as to your meal! Many are quite old, and in fact the notion of rugs and/or decoration lining a dinner goes back as far as the pazyryk discoveries. Sofreh Kilims are a colorful part of this ancient tradition.
