Kazak Verneh

Verneh is a floor covering that originates in the Caucuses that used to be known as a “sileh.” Typically, it has two pieces connected in its center, and designs surrounded it with horizontal rows of squares, usually two or more per panel. In the mid-20th century, using the soumak technique, verneh were born from what were at the time just old kilims from the caucuses and now they represent a rich traditional and truly lovely pieces in and of themselves.
